Melita Richter

Born in Zagreb, Croatia in 1947. Graduate in sociology (University of Zagreb, 1972). Master in urban studies (University of Zagreb, 1978). Studies in urban planning and environment at Oslo University, Norway (Universitetet i Oslo, ISS) in 1975 and 1978, in Salzburg, Austria (Salzburg Seminar in American Studies) in 1974 and at Viitakivi International Center, Hauho, Finland, in 1976. Works in City Planning Institute of Zagreb as urban-sociologist till 1980.

From 1980 lives in Trieste, Italy where works as sociologist, translator, publicist and intercultural mediator in educational field.

Academic status: tutor at Faculty of Pedagogical Sciences (Facoltà di Scienze della Formazione), Department of Sociology, University of Trieste.

Author of numerous sociological articles and researches concerned with the creation of new state-nations in the Balkan area, European integration, transfrontier cooperation, intercultural education, migration and gender, published in professional reviews and books in Croatia, Yugoslavia, Italy, Germany, France, Hungary, Great Britain, Spain, USA and Australia.

Co-author of the book “Conflittualità Balcanica – Integrazione Europea” (Balkan Conflictuality – European Integration), Editre Edizioni, Trieste, 1993, Editor of the book “Altra Serbia, gli intelettuali e la guerra” (The Other Serbia, Intellectuals and theWar), Selene Edizioni, Milano, 1996.

Editor of the book “Le guerre cominciano a primavera. Soggetti e identità nel conflitto jugoslavo”, (Wars Start in Springtime: Subjects and Identity in Yugoslav Conflict), Rubbettino, Soveria Mannelli, 2003.

Member of several professional, cultural and intercultural associations in Italy, Croatia and abroad.
